Following close upon the report of one suicide came the news that Henry Tuecke, a prominent farmer living near Ceres had committed suicide.
Mr. Tuecke went out to the yard in the rear of his home at about 1:30 p.m. and blew the side of his head off with a shotgun, the remains being horribly mangled. His family was at home and hearing the shot at once discovered him lying dead.
About six weeks ago Mr. Tuecke was before the commissioners of insanity, his family having filed complaint against him, but the commissioners did not deem it necessary at the time to send him away. It was doubtless in a fit of temporary insanity that he committed the awful deed. Coroner Beerman, of Guttenberg, was summoned and a jury impaneled which returned a verdict of suicide.

Elkader Register, Thur.,19 Oct. 1905. Garnavillo column.
The subject of this sketch, Jobst Henry Tuecke, was born Jan. 15, 1851, on a farm near Ceres. He grew to manhood in the parental home.
Twelve years after his confirmation in 1865, he was married to Sophia Schroeder. Six children were born to them, but the eldest, a son, died at the age of three months.
Mr. Tuecke's strong constitution would have enabled him seemingly to live for many years hence, but sad family affairs depressed him so profoundly that life seemed a burden to him. On Tuesday his troubles reached a climax and in his despondency, he made an end of his earthly existence by shooting himself in the mouth with a shot gun.
His burial took place Friday afternoon at Ceres, Rev. Bunge conducting the services. He was favorably regarded by the people of this community and his sudden death came as a shock to all. The surviving relatives have the condolence of the community in so sad an affliction.
