Elkader Register, Thur., 24 Aug. 1905. Garnavillo columns.

Gerhard Kaiser was born Sept. 10th, 1848, in Gehrde Amt Basnabruck, Hanover. At the age of five he crossed the ocean with his parents. After a short stay in the state of Illinois, they took up their abode in this vicinity on a farm, on which the parents died a number of years ago, and which he also was obliged to leave, Aug. 10, 1905, when the Reaper bade him come. April 6th, 1875, he was married to Anna Maria Louise Wiegmann, who with six children, viz, Henry, Louis, Will, Emma, Edward and Eldo, survive him, the youngest daughter having died in infancy. Mr. Kaiser's weak constitution subjected him to numerous ailments and several times to great bodily misfortunes. For years he suffered from the effects of a broken arm and a broken leg. About ten years ago one of his eyes was injured and later the other became effected impairing his sight to such a degree that he could only recognize day from night. He consulted specialists and visited six different hospitals in search of aid, but there seemed to be no cure for him. While this was weighing on him heavily a cancerous growth on the liver made rapid progress, causing him to once more visit a hospital, this time at Rochester, Minn. No encouragement could be given him so he returned home disheartened and spent the remaining days reconciling himself to his sad fate and preparing for the end to come. He was satisfied, however, to depart, feeling that his work on earth was done and that he was leaving it at peace with all.

The family are grief stricken at so great a loss but feel grateful to Heaven for having left this support so long and whilst support was required. Rev. Bunge conducted the funeral services which were held on Saturday, August 12th, at St. Peter's church, and extolled in a fitting manner the life of him who lay silent in death before him. From the church the assemblage proceeded to the new cemetery, where all that is mortal of a devoted husband and father was laid tenderly to rest. Herman and William Kaiser, brothers of the deceased, and their families, of Monona, son Louis and wife, of Smithfield, Ark., Henry Wiegman and wife, of Garner, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kregel and Mr. and Mrs. Aug Kregel, of Monona, were in attendance at the funeral.
