Elkader Register, Thur., 03 Aug. 1905. Guttenberg column.
Mrs. Joseph Huene, another of Guttenberg's pioneer residents to answer to the call of death, passed away peacefully Sunday forenoon, July 23, at the age of 69 years, 3 months and 26 days. Deceased, whose maiden name was Anna Gertrude Winkels, was born March 27, 1836, in Senden, Prussia, and came to this country with her parents, when about four years old, in 1840. They settled in Ohio, but in 1848 came west and located in Gutteberg, where deceased was married May 11, 1853, to Jos. Huene, who preceded her to the grave a number of years ago. Mrs. Huene had been a sufferer from heart and liver troubles for many years and which eventually caused her death. August Huene, an adopted son, is the only surviving member of the family. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's church Tuesday morning at 9:30, conducted by Rev. Father Brinkman, with interment in the Catholic cemetery.
