Elkader Register, Thur., 06 July 1905.

About 7 o'clock Friday evening, June 30th, 1905, after a illness of several weeks of Brights disease, Thomas Kelleher passed away at his late residence in Elkader.

Mr. Kelleher was born Dec. 23rd, 1833, in the county of Waterford, Ireland. He came to America with his parents in 1848. They settled in New York City, where the subject of our sketch remained until he was 21 years of age. He came west settling on a farm in Boardman township in 1855. In 1860 he was united in marriage with Miss May Direen, who died in January 1878, leaving five sons and one daughter, viz. William, Jerry, James, Frank, Edward and Anna.

In 1881 he married Hannah Roach, who survives his death. To them were born one son, John, and three daughters, May, Stella and Klo. All the children were present at the last sad rites.

In 1891 Mr. Kelleher retired from the farm and became a resident of Elkader. He was known as a quiet, peaceful citizen, honorable in his dealings with all men. He was devoted to his family and endeavored to be a devoted husband and father. He will be missed and mourned.

Besides the family named above he leaves three sisters, Mrs. Mary Hanlon, of Oelwein, Mrs. Kate Hyde, of Elkader, and Mrs. Bridget Cronan, of Kansas, also two brothers, William and Patrick, of Kansas.

The funeral was held Monday morning at St. Joseph's church, high mass being celebrated by Rev. J. F. Reilly. The solemn service was largely attended by the friends and old neighbors of the bereaved family.

The honorary pall bearers were Robert Quinn, Sr., Marshall Bachtell, Fred Rathman, Edward Kelly, Michael Cunningham and Fred Smith.

The active pall bearers were six nephews of the departed, Thos. F. Kelleher, John Kelleher, W. F. Hanlon, J. F., T. F. and P. J. Hyde.

Among those who were in attendance from abroad were Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Hanlon, of Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Gill, Mrs. Mary Hanlon, John Hyde, and M. T. Hanlon with his son and daughter, of Oelwein.
