FINNEGAN, VASKE

Lynne Marie Finnegan, age 58, of Colesburg, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on May 18, 2021 following a courageous six-year battle with breast cancer.

She was born on August 14, 1962, the daughter of Marvin and Patricia Vaske. Lynne graduated from Garnavillo High School, and was well-known in school for her competitiveness on the basketball court. On November 19, 1983, Lynne was united in marriage with Michael Finnegan at St. Joseph’s church in Garnavillo. Throughout their 38 years of marriage, Lynne and Michael farmed together.

Together, Lynne and Michael were blessed with two daughters, Michelle and Brianna. Lynne spent all of her time and energy being the best mother possible. She made sure to pass on her strength and hard work ethic to both daughters.

Lynne was well-known for her hard work ethic on the farm, and volunteering in the community. She could always be counted on to volunteer at various community events, church functions, and the Clayton County fair. In addition to working and volunteering, Lynne was arguably the world’s best cook and no one ever left her house hungry. It was not uncommon to know there would be a dessert at every meal in her house, and every family function would be blessed with multiple of her homemade pies.

Something Lynne was most proud of was her accomplishments through working at the Clayton Ridge Community School District for the past 19 years, and also subbing at Edgewood-Colesburg CSD. Lynne was very well-known to work with the most difficult students, and motivate them to be successful. Lynne made everyone she was around a better person, and she cared very deeply for all the students she worked with. She was so proud that these traits she possessed were passed down to her daughters.

Left to cherish Lynne’s memory are her husband, Michael; two daughters Michelle (Chris) Scott & Brianna (Dylan Flogel) Finnegan; an upcoming grandson to be born in August; her mother, Patricia Vaske; five siblings, Randy Vaske, Cheryl (Darwin) Funk, Janet (Pat) Harris, Rhonda (Stan) Mueller, Glenn (Tiffany) Vaske; many nieces and nephews; and her loving grand dog, Luna.

Lynne was welcomed to Heaven by her father, Marvin Vaske, and her grandson, Oliver Scott.
