Elkader Register, Thur., 05 Jan. 1905. Volga City views column.

Bessie Ophelia Kohn was born Sept. 27th, 1879, at St. Louis, Mo., where she spent nearly her whole life. Here she was educated, and here she was married August 10th, 1903, to Dr. G. R. Hill, then a medical student. In April 1904, they came north to Fayette, Iowa, the home of Mr. Hill's parents. Last June they located at Volga, where they have since resided, and where the Dr. has built up a lucrative practice.

About three weeks ago Mrs. Hill was taken ill, but was not thought seriously ill until a few days since, and in the first hour of the New Year, her spirit took its flight to that Better Country where pain and sickness are unknown. She fully realized her condition, and while she expressed a desire to get well she fearlessly approached life's end, saying that the angels were calling her and evincing a saving faith in her Heavenly Father.

Although she had lived among us a few short months yet in that time she had endeared herself to all her friends. To know her better was to love her better. She exhibited many admirable traits of character and has many warm friends who will miss her as a loyal friend and neighbor. She leaves a small daughter, husband, mother and brothers to mourn her early death.

The funeral was held the morning of of Jan. 3rd in the Presbyterian church and conducted by Rev. Koopman, who gave an excellent discourse. The remains were taken to Fayette, Iowa, for interment, accompanied by mourning relatives and friends. Her brother, Harry Kohn, of St. Louis, was present at his sister's funeral.

The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved.

"Death cannot come
To him untimely who is fit to die:
The less of this cold world, the more of
heaven:
The briefer life, the earlier
immortality."
