Elkader Register, Thur., 05 Jan. 1905. Elkport and Vicinity column.
August Menge, aged forty-six years, died at his home in Elkport Friday evening, Dec. 30, 1904, after a lingering illness. He was a sufferer the past six or seven years with consumption. During all this time he was very patient. All that could be done for him by a loving and dutiful wife and kind friends was done for him, but all was of no avail. The funeral took place Tuesday and was very largely attended, Father Rudge, of Prairie du Chien, officiating. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father, and the community a good reliable citizen.
(Note: In the same paper, date and earlier in the same column was the following:
Frank Putz, of Garnavillo, Henry, of Colesburg, and John, of Dyersville, attended the funeral of their brother-in-law, August Menge, at this place Tuesday.)
