Elkader Register, Thur., 29 Dec. 1904. Garnavillo column.

Matthias Walleser was born in Freiberg Baden, Sept. 19th, 1818. His parents died in his early youth so he became an adopted child. At the age of 14 he learned the blacksmith trade and continued this work during all his active years. In 1843 he married Rosina Riester, who preceded him in death in Garnavillo in the year 1893. Three years after his marriage he and his wife and son Henry emigrated to America and took up abode in Philadelphia. In 1855 they came to Garnavillo twp., and lived with a nephew, John Bruchord, who resided on the farm now owned by John Tuecke. There he began blacksmithing under an old cottonwood tree which is still standing. In the summer of '55 he opened a blacksmith shop in Garnavillo, and in later years entrusted his business to his son Emil. The last three years of his life were spent at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Schumacher. He died Tuesday night at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 2 days. Funeral services were held Friday morning at the Catholic church, of which the deceased was a devout member. Interment in the Catholic cemetery

Until we meet again before His throne,
Clothed in the spotless robe He gives
His own;
Until we know even as we are known -
Good night !

Of the ten children born to Mr. and Mrs. Walleser, eight are living, namely; Henry, of Nashua; Mrs. Harrison, of Nashua; Mrs. Henry Kuenzel, of Fairbank; Mrs. Nellie Kuenzel, Mrs. Elizabeth Krasinsky, Mrs. Rose Schumacher, Joseph and Emil, all of Garnavillo.
