Jessie Jane Amon was born in Raymiton, Vernango county, Pa., Feb. 24th, 1845, and died at Monona, Iowa, Nov. 4th, 1904, aged 59 years, 8 months and 11 days. At eleven years of age, in 1856, with her mother she came west, to Clayton county. She enjoyed few advantages, the lot of most young women, who with their parents, were the pioneer settlers of the great west. Her young life was one of doing hard work and constant diligence in the pioneer home. For several terms in 1862-3 she taught school in Elgin, in Fayette county. August 10th, 1865, she was united in marriage to William Wellman. By this union four children were born, Frederick Raymond, who died at two years of age, Nellie Amon, now Mrs. Thad Egbert, of Monona, Frank Dean, residing at Pasadena, Cali., and Jessie Irene a home. Funeral services were held Sunday morning under the auspices of the Order of Eastern Star and Women's Relief Corps. At the house a brief service, prayer, by Rev. Grinnell, and the Ritual Service by the Woman's Relief Corps. The remains were then escorted to the Congregational church by the two orders, accompanied by members of the Masonic fraternity and members of the G.A.R.
