Charles Woods, for many years a prominent farmer of Sperry twp., died Monday at his home in Volga City. He was born in England in 1830, and came to America in 1848, and to Clayton county in 1852. He is survived by a wife and one son. The funeral was held at Volga, Rev. Elwick officiating.

Mr. Chas. Woods was born in Elsley Huntington Shire, England, on Feb. 1st, 1830, and died at his home in Volga City, Oct. 31st, 1904. He was the youngest of eleven children, of whom all are now dead. He remained at home until eighteen years of age, when he came to this country, remaining in Niagara county, New York, for three years, after which he came to Iowa and settled in Volga, about 53 years ago. He was united in marriage to Miss Emma Thulbon on April 1st, 1858, who now survives him. Two sons were born to them, Sydney Robert and Warney Thulbon, the former having died 23 years ago, Warney is living near Volga. He has two granddaughters, Alice and Ruth Woods, and one grandson, Frank Woods. Ten years ago he left the farm and built a nice home, where Mr. and Mrs. Woods have since resided. Mr. Woods has been in poor health for several years but death came suddenly. The funeral was held at the home, Rev. Elwick officiating, and the remains laid away in the Volga cemetery. He was an honest, upright man in dealings and principle, and the community will miss him. The family has the sympathy of all in their loss and loneliness.
