The remains of Harry Smith, formerly of this place but now of Anamosa, were brought here Tuesday morning for burial. He leaves a wife and several children to mourn his death. Short services were conducted by Rev. O. C. DePuy. The G.A.R. attended in a body. Mrs. Smith and three sons accompanied the remains here. One by one the old soldiers pass away.

Smith, Harrison H. 1836-1904
DIED. On Monday, October 24th, at his home at Anamosa, occurred the death of Mr. H.H. Smith. Mr. Smith was a resident in this vicinity for many years.He was born in Shelby county, Ohio, March 19th, 1836. He lived in that state until he was seven years old, when he moved with his parents to Indiana and made that state his home until he enlisted in Co. B, 13th Indiana Cavalry Volunteers the 4th day of November, 1864, in which regiment he served one year. He was discharged the 9th day of November, 1865, at Vicksburg, Mississippi, by reason of expiration of service.
After the war he came to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he resided four years. He married Etta Stroud the 18th day of June, 1871, and moved to Strawberry Point the same year. He lived here until 1898, when he moved to Anamosa, Jones Co., Iowa, where he lived until his death, which occurred October 24th, 1904.
Nine children were born to them, of whom six are living. The wife and three children came with the body to Strawberry Point Tuesday morning. The remains were brought to this place on the Tuesday morning train, and were met at the depot by the Grand Army post of this city and escorted them to the cemetery in the east part of town where they were laid to rest. Rev. O.C. DePuy assisted the Post as chaplain.
Deceased was highly respected by all who knew him and made many friends during his long residence here. He fought during the civil war and made an honorable record. He was a kind and loving father and husband, a good neighbor and a true friend. The sympathies of all are extended to the bereaved ones in this sad hour of their affliction.
Resolutions.
Whereas, Comrade Harrison H. Smith, late member of Co. B, 13th regiment Indiana Cavalry volunteers, has been stricken from the rolls of his comrades by the hand of death and his remains kindly placed among the passionless mounds of his former comrades, his spirit to join the great majority gone before to that land of rest and peace, we his comrades bow in humble submission to the will of the Great Commander as we await the summons for the rear guard to join the solid phalanx of the historic army of the world.Resolved, We his comrades kindly tender our sympathy to the widow and members of the family, and pray that their Heavenly Father may not leave them comfortless.
Resolved, That these resolutions be published in the Strawberry Point Press and a copy sent to the family, and spread on the Post records.
