One of the saddest of life's features was presented to our people Saturday evening in the death of Mrs. Nellie Kearney Koopman, wife of Rev. Theo. Koopman, of the Presbyterian church, after a week of intense suffering. But twenty-eight years of age and a bride of only a few months, with a beautiful mission in life, aiding the noble work of her husband, she apparently had everything to live for, but Death's call came insistent and we can only bow to the will of Providence.
On Sunday previous to her death she had been well enough to attend church and partake in the communion service, ut Monday noon she was taken seriously ill and while everything possible was done, the call could not be denied. During the few months of her life here she had won many friends by her sweet disposition and beautiful character, who deeply sympathize with the bereaved husband, who is so bowed down by the shock and previous poor health that he may be obliged to give up his work for a time.
Last Monday morning a large number of friends gathered at the home bringing many beautiful flowers as their tribute of love and sympathy and a short service was held. Rev. Curran, of the Christian church reading the Scriptures, Miss Nettie Duff rendering a beautiful solo and Rev. Elwick, of the Methodist church offering the prayer. The friends were given the opportunity for the last sad look at the loved form clad in her earthly wedding clothes for the "Bridegroom", who cometh, then the remains were taken to Elkader, and from there to her old home in Cascade.
