At the home of his son Henry J. Wahls, in Farmersburg township, on Monday, occurred the death of John F. Wahls, a respected and pioneer resident. Mr. Wahls was born in Mecklenberg, Germany, in 1820. He emigrated to the United States in 1852 and came to Clayton county in 1855 and has ever since resided in Farmersburg township. He was married twice, his first wife dying in New Orleans. He was marred again in 1855 to Mary Jacobs and one daughter and three sons were born to them. Mr. Wahls was one of our successful German farmers and had the respect of a large circle of friends. A daughter, Mrs. Fox, resides at Elkader. The funeral was held at Garnavillo on Wednesday.- Argus.

John Frederich Wahls was born June 20th, 1825*, in Kre_sdorf, Germany. In 1852 he emigrated to America and after eleven weeks voyage landed in New Orleans. After a short time his wife died and he then moved to St. Louis. Here death claimed the elder son and soon after taking up his abode in St. Joseph, Mo., the second son died.
Forsaken and in despair he trod this weary earth until finally encouraged by friends he came to this county and pressed forward with new vigor.
In 1855 he was married to Marie Jacobs. This union was blessed with eight children, five of whom preceded the father in death.
Those living are: Henry Wahls, of Farmersburg; Mrs. Marie Meyer, Farmersburg; Mrs. Bertha Fox, Elkader. Deceased reached the ripe old age of 84 years, 3 months and 20 days. Funeral services were held in St. Paul's Lutheran church, burial on the family lot in the old cemetery.
