Passed to spirit life at 5:37 a.m. June 19, 1898, Mrs. Mary Fields, nee Mary Clapp, aged 59 years 5 months 21 days.

Deceased was born in Oregon, Clark County, Indiana, Nov. 28th, 1838, married David Fields April 15th, 1854, moved to Kansas 1870, living there until six years ago when they moved to North McGregor, Iowa, where they have since resided till the final transition came.

Mrs. Fields was the mother of eight children of whom five and her husband still survive her. Mrs. Belle Ferris of North McGregor, Robert Fields, of Douglas, Kan., William, Charles and Rose Fields of North McGregor.

Mrs. Fields was a great sufferer for three years. Though patient she sighed for rest and rejoiced when conscious that her end had come. She believed in spite of her pain, in the justice of God and hoped for immortality beyond the grave.

Through the night of her agony was long her patient faith still shining on, looked steadily for the coming day. All her children excepting Robert was with her when the summons came.

Many beautiful floral offerings were brought by loving friends. Rev. Ferguson of McGregor delivered the funeral discourse at their home Tuesday June 21st 10:30 a.m. Her remains were laid to rest in a beautiful lot in Oakland Cemetery.

"Peace to our mother, Whose life was all given
To toiling and making for loved ones a heaven.
For loved ones who bless her, and love that dear face
The cold earth now covers -- that naught can replace
Peace to that spirit now free from the clay;
Peace to her body, to rest laid away.
We bless her -- we love her no less over there
Than here, and will treasure that old vacant chair;
Those bed-spreads and tidies, those head rests she gave,
Will be mothers whispers -- not stilled with the grave."

The family wishes to thank the many kind friends who assisted them during their sad bereavement.
