Elkader Register, Thur., 14 Apr. 1904. Garnavillo column.

Sunday, Apr. 3rd, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. Harnack, of Read, after a lingering illness, occurred the death of Mrs. John Martin, at the advanced age of 71 years. Funeral services were held in St. Paul's Lutheran church Wednesday afternoon by Rev. W. K. Braun, and the remains laid to rest beside her husband and daughter who preceded her. She leaves to mourn five sons, Herman, Henry and Charles, of Remsen; John, of Postville; Will, of Farmersburg, and two daughters, Mrs. Chas. Harnack and Mrs. Mary DeVal, of Remsen.

"At rest at last from life's sad toil,
She's gathered in that fold,
Where angels sing eternal praise,
For valiant deeds and bold.
The clinging arms that held her dear,
Have loosed their loving hold,
The heart that throbbed in gratitude,
is silent now and cold."

(Note: The surname Martin is shown in this obit, however, WPA records show Anna Martins, 1833 - 03 Apr. 1904, buried in Garnavillo cemetery.)
