TWO AGED RESIDENTS BURIED HERE SATURDAY
_______F. O. ERIE AND AUG. HEILLER WERE EARLY RESIDENTS OF GUTTENBERG
_______Ferdinand O. Erie, aged 78 years, 8 months and 1 day, and for the past twenty-seven years a resident of Guttenberg or this vicinity, died at his home in this city Thursday evening of last week, June 16, at nine-thirty o’clock.
Funeral services were held from the house at 2:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon and from the St. Paul’s English Lutheran church at 3 o’clock the pastor, the Rev. R. R. Belter, officiating and with burial in the city cemetery.
Mr. Erie was born at Jimtown, Wisconsin, October 15, 1848, and April 22, 1867 was married to Caroline Frashier at Cassville, Wisconsin. She preceded him in death many years ago and he was married a second time in the same town to Rose Wick on July 19, 1886.
He is survived by his widow and eight children who are Mrs. Minnie Wachendorf, of Buena Vista, Mrs. Ida Wick, of Buena Vista, Mrs. H. Dietrich, of this city, Mrs. S. S. Worley of Shellsburg, Mrs. Frank Entler of Rock Island, Illinois, all by his first wife. The children from the second marriage who survive are Charlotte Ann Asbell, of Daytona, Florida, Andrew L. Erie, of Dubuque, and Mrs. Roy Brown, of Iowa City; one son Freddie, preceded in death. Mrs. Charlotte Gay, a sister of Diamond Bluff, is the other surviving member of his immediate family. Besides these and a host of friends twenty-one grand children and twenty-two great grand children grieve at the passing of their relative and friend.
