Elkader Register, Thur., 17 Apr. 1902. St. Olaf column.
At six o'clock Friday morning, April 11th, there passed to its higher home the beautiful life of Grace Larson, oldest daughter of Jacob Larson and wife. An operation had been performed on her limb and a diseased bone removed, but blood poison setting in caused her death. Every thing that medical skill could perform or loving care could suggest was done to restore her, but the appointed hour had come and the young spirit passed through the valley of death. Grace was about fourteen years of age. She possessed a cheerful and loving disposition and in all circles where she moved she attracted many friends. The loss of such a young lady has not only thrown a pall of sorrow over her own family, but over the entire community. Funeral services were held at the house at nine o'clock Sunday morning, where sorrowing friends assisted the relatives in the last sad rites. In a grave beautifully lined with white and decorated with flowers and evergreens she was laid to rest in the Norwegian cemetery.
