Death by Accident.
Elkader Democrat:—To say that the people were shocked on yesterday morning on learning of the death of Hon. Chas. Mentzel would hardly express their feelings. He was in the city on Saturday evening and while driving home his team became frightened, ran away and threw him out of the wagon, inflicting injuries which resulted in his death which occured on Monday at eleven o’clock, a. m. Mr. M. was born in Dresden, Saxony, in 1831, and came to Iowa in 1854. He had held numerous offices, twice representing Clayton Co., in the Legislature, besides serving as a Supervisor.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone shows he was born July 26, 1832 and died March 18, 1895. He is buried in the Elkader Cemetery.
