Elkader Register, Thur., 13 Mar. 1902. Garnavillo column.
Wednesday noon sad news arrived announcing the death of Mrs. John Soltow, of Guttenberg. Apoplexy was the cause of her death.
Margaret Thoma was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Thoma, nee Poesche. She was born in Garnavillo March 28, 1864. On June 9th, 1881, she was united in marriage with Louis Herberg, six children being born to this union three of whom have gone before, while three remain to mourn her loss. May 10th, 1894, her husband died, leaving her to face the world alone with her children. After several years of widowhood, she was again united in marriage, Dec. 23, 1897, this time to John Soltow, of Guttenberg, a widower with three children. By this second union one child, a boy was born, so together with her husband, seven children, three girls and four boys, a mother, four brothers and four sisters are left to mourn her loss. Mrs. Soltow was a kind and affectionate woman and was held in esteem by all who knew her. Having long been a resident of Garnavillo, she was well known by all and was always met with the heartiest greetings. She is deeply mourned by her friends, but she has gone to that peaceful home where we will all meet again. Her remains were brought to Garnavillo and interment made in the new cemetery. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereft ones.
