Killed while Hunting.
Elkader Journal:—Last Friday Mr. Goodwin was in town (Volga City) selecting presents for his family, in the best of health. On Saturday he went out hunting with his grandson, Wallace Boyer, who carried the gun. During the excitement of catching a squirrel the gun was accidentally discharged, the ball hitting Mr. Goodwin just above the navel, passing through the bowels and coming out below the {illegible} Help came from the house, to {illegible}he was tenderly carried, and all {illegible} medical skill and kind hands could do was done, but to no avail. After twenty-four hours of severe suffering he departed this life Sunday afternoon, Dec. 23d, aged 61 years. William Wallace Goodwin was born in Vermont in 1833, and came to Clayton county with his parents in 1852.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows his first name as Wallace and that he is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery.
