Elkader Register, Thur., 09 Oct. 1879. Garnavillo column.
It is with sincere regret that I announce the death of Mr. John Harberg, which occurred at his residence , on Saturday, Oct. 4th, about 2 o'clock. Mr. Harberg had been in his usual health on Friday, but at night was taken ill with a severe attack of colic, which terminated his life. Mr. Harberg was a man universally respected and esteemed by all who knew him. He was an old settler here, having been a resident of this place for twenty-four years, and of the county a much longer time. He leaves a wife and three sons to mourn their irreparable loss. By industry and close attention to his business , he had amassed a large property, and although at the advanced age of seventy-four years, still gave his personal attention to his store and workshop. A good citizen, a kind friend and neighbor, and an indulgent father and husband has left us, and his loss is universally regretted. The family have the sympathy of all in their sad bereavement. His son John who is Nebraska, was telegraphed for, but owing to a late severe attack of pneumonia was unable to arrive in time for the last sad obsequies, which took place on the 7th.
