DIED - In McGregor, on Sunday, May 2d, 1880, of consumption, Mrs. Mary A. Daynes, aged 52 years.

Mrs. Daynes was born in the eastern part of England. In 1855, with her husband and her parents, she emigrated to this country, Mr. Daynes engaging in business at Stoughton, Wis. In 1864 the family removed to McGregor; the following year Mr. Daynes started for a trip to California across the plaines, but the Indian outbreaks detained the party at Nebraska City where Mr. Daynes was taken down sick with a fever, and died in August of that year.

Three children had preceded the father to the grave, during the residence at Stoughton. Left with two young children, Mrs. Daynes, with energy and a determined purpose of doing for herself, started in business opening a millinery and dressmaking establishment, which grew in favor and patronage and rewarded her with a fair competency, the result of her own personal effort and foresight. In this business she continued until last year, when she sold to the Misses Moss.

During her residence in McGregor, Mrs. Daynes had the esteem and good will of the entire community; a lady of excellent traits of character, kindly disposed towards all with whom she came in contact. For the past two years or more Mrs. Daynes had been a sufferer, yet hopeful that a complete recovery would be her reward. The past winter she spent in Florida, but without the relief expected. Returning home only a few weeks since, she grew worse, and finally a little past noon on Sunday, she died surrounded by the two loving children, friends and relatives.

Three brothers - Wm. Lacy, of Lime Springs, one in Keokuk, Iowa, and one in England - and a son and daughter, are the surviving members of the family.

In July of last year she accompanied the remains of her father to the train to be conveyed to Stoughton, to which place she had consigned the body of her departed mother just two years previous.

Two children, Ambrose W. and DeEtta R. Daynes are left to mourn the death of a kind and indulgent parent.

The funeral services occurred at the family residence on Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C.C. Cragin, and the remains were taken to Stoughton, Wis., for interment, accompanied by the son and daughter and brother Wm. Lacy.

In July of last year she accompanied the remains of her father to the train to be conveyed to Stoughton, to which place she had consigned the body of her departed mother just two years previous.
