Elkader Register, Fri., 10 Sept. 1897. Osterdock column.

On Wednesday, Aug. 25th, occurred the death of Earl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cars_ White. The accident causing his death was one of the saddest events that has occurred in this neighborhood lately. While playing with some children on the haystack he slid off striking the point of a sharpened stick he had been playing with a few minutes before, the stick entering the lower part of the bowels and breaking off. Medical aid was off no avail. The funeral services were held at Bethel church, Mr. Emerson preaching the funeral sermon. The bereaved parents have the sympathy of all in their affliction.
