Guttenberg Press Aug. 1970...Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Colesburg United Methodist Church of Vincent Merle Combs 56, who died on his Birthday Saturday night at an Iowa City hospital where he had been taken when he was sticken while at work.
The services were conducted by Rev. Wilfred Robinson, pastor of the church, and burial was in the Bethel cemetery in charge of the Appleton funeral home at Edgewood. Pallbearers were Lloyd Rentschler, Robert Zittergruen, Louis Noggle, Art Hansel, Lole Kulper and Lyle Kulper. Pianist for the service was Miss Edith Merten.
Mr. Combs was born August 22, 1914, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Combs on an acreage near Edgewood. He attended the Greeley high school and engaged in farming. For a time he was employed by the creamery here and most recently by a construction firm.
Surviving Mr. Combs are his wife, the former Ruth Smith, and two sons, Ronnie and Jon Combs, both of Garber. Also survivng are two grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. John Smith of Gateway, Colorado; Mrs. Harvey Palmer of Oelwein, and Mrs. George Long of Colesburg, Ia.

Dubuque Paper...Vincent Merle Combs, son of Edward and Ida "Sprague" Combs, was born on an acreage near Edgewood Aug. 22, 1914, and grew to young manhood on farms east of Edgewood. He graduated from the Greeley high school and was united in marriage with Ruth Smith Oct. 24, 1937. They were engaged in farming north of Colesburg, and Mr. Combs hauled cream to the Colesburg creamery. In later years after the closing of the creamery he was employed by the Light Construction company. He had been in poor health this year. Mr. Combs is survived by his wife; two sons, Jon and Ronnie, both of Garber; two granddaughters, and three sisters, Mrs. George (Ila) Long of Colesburg, Mrs. John (Alberta) Smith of Gateway, Colo., and Mrs. Harvey (Evon) Palmer of Oelwein.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1957 and his mother in 1960.
