Michael Leonard, an old and highly respected citizen of this place, died at his home here Friday. He was 77 years old and had been a resident of this county some 50 years. The family have the sympathy of the entire community.

Michael Leonard, one of the pioneer residents of Cox Creek twp., died at his home in that township on Friday, Dec. 15th, 1899. Deceased was born in Ireland about 1819, and came to America about 1849, coming to Clayton county and Cox Creek some forty years ago. His aged wife, two sons, William and Richard, three daughters, Mrs. John O'Brien, Mrs. Calvin Whittle and Mrs. James Dinan and one brother, John Leonard, of Elkader, survive and mourn his departure.
Mr. Leonard was held in high esteem by all who knew him, being a kind neighbor, a faithful friend and a devoted member of his church. The funeral was held Sunday last at St. Joseph's church at Elkader, Rev. Father Reilly officiating. The last sad rites being attended by a large number of friends and relatives of the departed. May he rest in peace.
