Mr. Hoyt lived in South Hero, Vt., with his parents until 1878, when he came to Volga City. Soon after his arrival he was married to Miss Mattie A. Whitford, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. J. G. Whitford. After their marriage they went to Vermont, where they lived about four years, after which they returned to Volga City, where they have made their home ever since. As a neighbor he stood in high esteem. His funeral was largely attended, the church being crowded to overflowing. Services were conducted by his pastor, Rev, J. K. Shiffer. The text selected for the occasion was Rev. 21:4, "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away."
