Clayton County Register, Thur., 31 Oct. 1929.

After a brief illness of about one month, Mrs. Herman Ahrens passed away at the Moran hospital here at eight o'clock Sunday morning, October 27, 1929, at the age of 43 years, eleven months and 25 days.

Lizzie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gavey, was born Nov. 2, 1885, in Jefferson township, Clayton county, Iowa. There she attended school, and was confirmed in Garnavillo with the class of (several words blurred).

Five years later, on March 15, 1905, she was married to Herman Ahrens, at Garnavillo. The couple moved on a farm in Read twp., which has been the home of the departed all these years. One son, Melvin, was born to this union.

The later part of September of this year, Mrs. Ahrens began to complain of severe headaches. Medical aid was sought and relief given. But this proved to be only temporary. Finally it was decided to take her to the hospital; this was done on Wednesday, Oct. 23rd. Her condition became more serious and she suffered intensely. Death came as relief and a blessing. She was called in the prime of her years. Her departure will be deeply felt by husband and son, to whom she was a good wife and mother all these years.

She also leaves two brothers, George and William, of Salem, S.Dak., two half-brothers, Fred and John Lembke, of Garnavillo, other relatives and many friends and neighbors.

Services were held at the Evan. church Tuesday, Nov. 29, and burial was made in the Garnavillo cemetery.
