Clayton County Register, Thur., 04 Apr. 1929. Garnavillo column.
It has pleased almighty God to take out of this life one of our oldest members, a pioneer of our county, Mrs. Frederick Walter, nee Anna Schierholtz. She was born Dec. 20, 1841, in New Bremen, Ohio, and came with her parents to Clayton county in 1846, when she was just five years of age.
They first settled on a farm in Read township. She was Confirmed April 4, 1858, by Rev. G. Stockfeld.
On Dec. 23, she was united in marriage to Frederick Walter. To this union were born two children, Emil who died in infancy, and Andrew, who took care of his mother until the time of her death.
Her husband conducted a harness shop until old age forced him to retire from business. He died Feb. 10, 1905.
She always enjoyed good health until Nov. 1927 when she fell. Since then she was more or less helpless, but she never complained. Two weeks ago Tuesday she suffered a paralytic stroke which left her helpless. She was tenderly cared for by her son, Andrew, her sister and her niece, also by members of the Ladies' Aid.
She passed away peacefully Wednesday evening at 11:15 after she had reached an age of 8_ years, two months and 29 days.
She is mourned by her son, Andrew, one brother, Herman Schierholtz, of Monona, two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Tangeman, of Garnavillo, and Mrs. Minnie Krumm, of Postville, besides many other relatives and friends. She was a charter member and remained a faithful member of St. Paul's Ladies' Aid.
