Clayton County Register, Thur., 07 Feb. 1929.

Our community was surprised and deeply grieved upon learning that Violetta Wagner had passed away at the Lenth hospital at 5 o'clock Sunday evening, February 3, 1929. Perhaps very few knew that she was sick at all, as she had been seen about every day. On Friday, Feb. 1, she had an operation for appendicitis; some unforseen complications set in, and in spite of the very best treatment and care given, she passed away on the third day, at the age of twenty years, and seventeen days.

Violetta, daughter of Ernest Wagner and wife Emma, nee Dinges, was born on a farm a few miles N. W. of Elkader on January 16, 1909. When only a little over two years old her father died, on July 4th, 1911. Then the widowed mother, not being able to work the farm, moved to Elkader. Here Violetta attended the public school, and assisted her mother with the housework. For over a year she was employed at the Hand's restaurant, where she had helped out for some years on Saturdays and during vacation time. That she must have been faithful in her work, and that same was highly appreciated by her employers, is amply verified by the fact that they thought so much of her.

She was the only girl in the family: one sister having preceded her in infancy. Her departure naturally means a great loss to the mother. She also leaves two brothers, Frank, of Burlington, Iowa, and Charles, at home, other relatives, many comrades and friends.

Funeral services were conducted by her pastor, C. H. Franke, this (Thursday) afternoon, Feb. 7, at the family home, and in the Evangelical church, where the departed was confirmed, with a class of eighteen children, on Palm Sunday, April 5, 1925. Interment was made in the East Side cemetery.
