Elkader Register, Thur., 12 Nov. 1925. Strawberry Point column.
Our community was saddened last Wednesday when it was learned that W. L. Barker had passed away. Friends could hardly believe it. Mr. Barker had been ailing for some time but was up and around nearly all the time. Monday he seemed better and on Tuesday L. A. Little called in to see him and while they were talking he had a stroke. He gradually grew worse until death relieved him from his sufferings. Mr. Barker will not only be missed in his home but by his host of friends as he always had a pleasant word when he met them. He served on the city council for a time and was always for the betterment of the town. Besides his heart broken wife he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Nettie O'Brien and Mrs. Elsie Gray, both of Chicago, also three grandchildren, besides other relatives and a large circle of friends. Funeral services occurred in the M.E. church Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Turner. Interment took place in our beautiful cemetery.
(Note: WPA records indicate, William Barker, 1866 - 1925, buried in Strawberry Point cemetery.)
