Traugott Schaub was born August 29, 1844 in Sissach, Kanton Basel, Switzerland. In the month of January, 1874, he came to this country with his brother, Theophil, and settled in Garnavillo township. At first he worked on several farms until the time of his marriage to Miss Minnie Neubecker, August 16, 1884. Then the young married couple settled on a farm in Volga Township, which was their home for the next forty years. Their marriage union was blessed with nine children, whom are all living. It was a severe shock when on June 22, 1925, his beloved wife and companion of forty years was called from his side by death. For the last three years he was suffering more or less until the last few weeks, when he was confined to his bed. Rev. Braun called on him several times and responding to his earnest desire he gave to him the Lords Supper. He passed away on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 2:30 o'clock p.m. His death being caused by complications of diseases. He attained the age of 81 years and 15 days. Those left to mourn his death are his beloved children, namely, Marie Straus, Guttenberg; Fred Schaub, Volga township; Anna Marie, Volga township; Otto Schaub, Fredricksburg, Iowa; William and John, on the home place in Volga township; Caroline Bauer, Volga township; Minnie Eggert, Garnavillo township; and Martha Levin, Jefferson township, 34 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Four grandchildren, Marie Straus, Verda Maier, Alberta Schaub, and Grace Maier acted as flower girls. Funeral services were held at St. Paul's church Sunday afternoon, Rev. K. Wm. Braun officiating. Interment in the new cemetery at Garnavillo.
