Charles Bales, member of the firm Rhodies & Bales, contractors, died at the E. J. Opperman home at Strawberry Point last Saturday. He was taken ill near Decorah, where he was with a bridge gang, and died the following day of pneumonia. He was 34 years old. He came to Strawberry Point 11 years ago to keep books for P. N. Kingsley contractor, and later associated himself with Wm. Rhodies. He was a graduate of the Highland Park school. Funeral services were held at the Opperman home and the remains were taken to Colfax Monday, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Opperman and Mr. Rhodies.
