A Pioneer Story.
Waukon Standard:—Mrs. Elizabeth Patch died in Minneapolis on the 16th, aged 100 years, 10 months and 10 days. She was the mother of Mrs. Louisa Murdock, widow of the late Judge Murdock, of Elkader. Mrs. Patch was born in New York and was married to Luther Patch in 1818 and they came to Clayton county, Iowa, in 1837. Before McGregor's Landing came into existence or a ferry was established there, Mr. Patch had charge of the Iowa side of the ferry from Prairie du Chien, and of the hotel there which was located about half way between Yellow River and what is now North McGregor, and from there the old government road went west up through a ravine north of the late Judge Hatch farm this side of North McGregor. It was at that early day ferry house and hotel that Judge Murdock wooed, won and was married to his wife, Louisa Patch. The Patch family moved to Minnesota in 1847, and Mrs. Patch has resided there most of the time since. Her husband, Luther Patch, died at Judge Murdock’s in Elkader several years since.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she was born June 16, 1798 and is buried in Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
