Elkader Register, Fri. morning, 19 Mar. 1897. McGregor column.
Sunday morning about nine o'clock, while Mr. John Heilberg, of the R.R. Hotel, was cleaning the snow and ice off the roof, he in some way stepped off and fell, striking the ground about 35 feet below with terrific force. He was found to be injured in both limbs, a fracture and sprain in one ankle and the other badly twisted. His back hurt him and internally it was thought he was injured, but just how much could not be ascertained. After his bruises were dressed he seemed to be quite comfortable and remained so, seeming to gain until about one o'clock Tuesday, he suddenly became worse and died in a few minutes, the cause supposed to be an internal hemmorhage. He was about fifty years old and leaves a wife, five sons and a daughter.
