Elkader Register, Fri. morning, 08 Oct. 1897.
Mrs. Thos. Reilly
The remains of Mrs. Reilly were brought here Saturday and laid to rest in St. Joseph's cemetery beside those of her husband who died in 187_ (Looks like 1876 or 1878).
Deceased died at her home near Donnan Junction at the age of 76 years. With her husband she came to Cox Creek twp., in this county, in 1859, being among the early settlers. In 1868 they moved to Fayette county. She was the mother of twelve children, four daughters and eight sons. Among those present at the funeral were P. H., of Salt Lake city, Utah; Thomas, Matthew and Peter, of Fayette county; a daughter, Mrs. Honovan, of Leadville, Col.; Frank Murray, a nephew, of What Cheer; and Frank, another nephew.
It was fitting testimony to the character and worth of the departed that about forty of her old friends and neighbors accompanied her remains to this place. Among those were W. T. Hanlon and mother, of Oelwein; Patrick H. Hastings, of Lima; P. Maloney, of Donnan; John VanSickle and H. C. Strum, of West Union, and others whose names we did not learn.
