Elkader Register, Fri. morning, 16 Apr. 1897.
Hannah Hapner was born Nov. 16, 1811, at Malchin, Mecklenberg-Schwerin, Germany. Her school years were spent at Golsow. In 1833 she married Fredrick Heiden, who was a trader of stock. In May, 1857, they came to America, one of their daughters having preceded them. They came to Iowa and settled in Boardman township. Here they lived on their farm until 1871, when they sold their farm to their son Charles, with whom they lived until he died in 1885, since which time the aged couple have lived with the children. In 1891, the husband, Fredrick, died at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Michael Eckart at Arlington, and on Wednesday, April 7th, 1897, the aged mother departed her life at the same place with the daughter, where she had been tenderly cared for in her declining years. Five children, August of Read, Fred. of Cox Creek, Mrs. Chas. and Mrs. John Stahl of Boardman twp., and Mrs. Michael Eckart of Arlington, are left to mourn the loss of a loving mother.
The funeral was held Friday from the Eckart residence, the burial being in the family lot at Mederville.
