On Wednesday last, occurred the death of Fred Aulwes, Sr., one of Guttenberg's oldest citizens. He was born in Germany in 1813, and immigrated to this country in 1838. He obtained employment at railroading in Louisiana until the following spring when he went to Cincinnati, Ohio, and resided there until March 184_ (looks like a 3 or 5). He then came to Gutteberg, being one of the earliest settlers. He located in Jefferson township, and in January 1879 he removed into the village. His wife, formerly Charlotte Seawing, died April 21st, 1896, being born in Germany also. To them seven children were born, Mrs. Gus. Be_tel (looks like n or u), Sr., Mrs. Carl Westphal, deceased, Fred, Henry, John, Louis and George Aulwes. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., and the sermon was delivered by James Schroeder.
