Elkader Register, Fri. morning, 26 Mar. 1897. Garnavillo column.

Another loved one was taken from our midst Wednesday morning, which was a shock to all our people. The one that was next called upon was Mrs. Louis Hartwig, Sr., who had been suffering with la grippe for over a week, though not considered serious, still it was the cause of her untimely death. Funeral services were held Saturday. Rev. F. Sommerlad officiated. The stricken family has the sympathy of the community in their great sorrow.

(Note: WPA records indicate Katherine Hartwick, 1836 - 1897, buried in Garnavillo cemetery.)
