After a short illness of about ten days of lung fever and pleurisy, at about 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 6th, 1897, Dominick Willmes of this township, passed from life unto death, aged 76 years, 2 months and 3 days. He was born in the village of Kaundorff, Luxemburg, Germany.
He came to America in 1857 with his parents, four brothers and two sisters and the family first settled at Rosehill, Chicago, but after three months they came to Luxemburg, Dubuque county, where they rented a farm. In 1861 they moved to the farm in Boardman twp., where Mr. Willmes died. Two brothers, Peter and Nicholas, and two sisters, Mrs. Peter Miller and Mrs. N. Toutsch, with a number of nephews and nieces survive him. He never married.
Deceased was well known as an honorable and an upright citizen, one that will be missed from among us. By his industry and thrift he had secured a competence and took comfort in its management.
The funeral will be held Saturday morning, starting from the house at nine o'clock, the services being held at St. Joseph's church at 10 o'clock.
