Herman Kruse died Feb. 26,1955 at the Prairie du Chien hospital after a brief illness. Mr.Kruse was born April 30,1872 in Germany, the same year his parents came to America, settling in Volga Township in Clayton Co., where he received his education in the rural schools. On Jan. 11,1894, he was united in marriage to Marie Schmill at Elkport,Ia. They made their home on a farm in Volga Township until 1948,when they retired and moved to Garber,Ia. Mrs.Kruse preceded her husband in death in 1952. They were the parents of seven children,Louis Kruse,Elkader;Herman Kruse, Strawberry Point; Mrs.Louis(Elsie)Zittergruen,Guttenberg; Mrs.Alto(Lydia)Fehlhafer,Farmersburg; Leonard
Kruse,Guttenberg;Alfred Kruse,Garber,and Harold Kruse,Garber. Mr.Kruse is survived by his seven
children, 22 grandchildren,and 18 great-grandchildren. Also two brothers,John Kruse, Reedsport,Oregon and Louis Kruse, Bettendorf,Ia. His parents,one grandchild,two great-grandchildren preceded him in death. Mr.Kruse was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Elkport,Ia. Funeral services were held March 1,1955 with the Rev.F.W.Tillmanns officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery at Elkport. Pallbearers were; Eldon Kruse, Clark Kruse, Robert Cheeseman, Harlan Zittergruen, LaVern Zittergruen,and Morris Rodenberg.
