Elkader Register, Thur., 01 Mar. 1900. Garnavillo column.
After a lingering illness of many weeks, Mrs. Caroline Brumm, nee Rechow, quietly passed to the great beyond. The deceased was born Jan. 26, 1826, in Nackel, Posen, Germany. On the 8th of March, 1848, she was united in marriage to Wm. Brumm, of the same place. Later, in 1851, she with her husband came to America and after spending twenty-three years in Jefferson twp., they took up their abode in Garnavillo, where they remained till death called them to the better home above. Six children blessed their home, of which Otto, husband of Mrs. Bertha Brumm, of this place, died in the month of May 1886. Those surviving to mourn the loss of their dear ones are: Emil Brumm, of Emmetsburg; Emma, wife of Fred Nietert, of Spirit Lake; Ottilie, wife of Aug. Ingwerson, of Dubuque; Caroline, wife of Fred Schumacher, of this place; and Wm. Brumm, of Dubuque. May the following be a token of the respect entertained for the deceased and a few words of sympathy to the bereaved friends.
Although she sleeps her memory doth live,
And cheering comfort to her mourners give.
She followed virtue as her trust guide,
Lived as a Christian - as a Christian died.
