Elkader Register, Thur., 20 July 1922.

Charlotte Heitman was born June 4th, 1840, at Heinrichshof, Germany, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Amelia Strong, in Fayette County, Iowa, on July 13th, 1922, at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 9 days.

On December 25th, 1860, she was united in marriage to John Bunting. Eleven children were born to this union, of which the first, a pair of twins, died shortly after birth, and two others at the age of four years.

In 1881 the family came to this country and settled in Read Township, Clayton County, Iowa. Having been used to hard work they continued to do so while on the farm, until the infirmities of advanced years compelled Mr. and Mrs. Bunting to relax somewhat; so they came to Elkader with their son Herman and family, but for the last few years made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Amelia Strong, of Fayette County.

Mrs. Bunting was a frail little woman and had been ailing for a number of years, being subject to frequent fainting spells. On June 18th, she, her husband and daughter and grandchild attended the services at the Evang. church at Elkader, of which she was a member. At this time she was already very feeble and having, no doubt a presentiment of her approaching end, desired to have Holy Communion administered, in order to be prepared for the last summons.

During the days of sickness she received the best of care from her daughter Amelia and sons until she closed her eyes in the last sleep at about one o'clock in the morning of Thursday, July 13th.

Her departure is mourned by the aged husband, John Bunting, to whom she had been a faithful wife and companion for almost 62 years, sharing his cares as well as his joys.

She also leaves one son, William of Littleport, Iowa, two daughters, Mrs. Amelia Strong and Mrs. Matilda Feller of Fayette County, 14 grandchildren, other relatives and many old time friends and neighbors.

Besides the four children which died in infancy she was also preceded in death by two daughters: Anna Bunting and Mrs. Marie Coates, who died Dec. 25th, 1913, at the age of 44 years, and two sons: Herman, who died July 11th, 1914, at the age of 35 years, and Charles, who passed away suddenly Sept. 5th, 1916, at the age of 51 years.

She was a faithful member of the Evang. Church and Frauen-Verein. Funeral services were held at the Evang. Church at 3 o'clock on Friday July 14th, Rev. C. H. Franke officiating. The Frauen-Verein attended in a body. Interment was made in the East Side Cemetery.
