Elkader Register, Thur., 20 July 1922. Garnavillo column.

Mrs. Henry Frank died at her home in Clayton Center on Saturday morning, July 8th, after an illness lasting over several months.

Mrs. Maria Caroline Wilhelmina Frank, nee Possehl, was born on May 3rd, 1845, in Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany. On March 23rd, 1873, she was united in marriage to Mr. Henry Fredrich Louis Frank in Hamburg. They came to America in the same year, settling at Elkport, Iowa. For a time they lived on a farm in Kossuth County, later returning to Clayton County, living on various farms until they moved to Clayton Center in 1896.

Their only daughter who had been married to Mr. John Scherf, died after a short married life, and when later Mr. Scherf married Miss Marie Schroeder, that union was blessed by one son, John Henry. After the mother's death the little son was taken by Mr. and Mrs. Frank and cared for as their own.

Mrs. Frank was taken sick on April 25th and has been gradually growing weaker until she was relieved by death on Saturday morning, July 8th, at 4:30. She had reached the age of 77 years, 2 months and 5 days. Besides her husband she is mourned by her grandson, John Scherf, of this place, and a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were held at the church in Clayton Center on Monday, July 10th, Rev. K. Wm. Braun officiating, and interment made in the cemetery there.
