Elkader Register, Thur., 29 June 1922. Strawberry Point columns.
Mrs. Caroline Weger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Griesiuger, was born in Germany May 25, 1847. Here she spent the days of her happy childhood, received her general education, and a thorough religious training in the Evangelical Lutheran faith. The three fundamental principals of Christian life and conduct, loyalty to church, home and country. were her predominating features. When at the age of twenty-two on Jan. 1st, 1869, she came to America with her parents, she considered this her country, respected its laws and institutions, fulfilled her civic duties and obligations, conscientiously, faithfully and obediently. As such she was respected and esteemed by all her fellow citizens. But she also was a kindhearted, true and faithful wife and mother. On March 11th, 1870, she was married to Mr. Christian Allenstein. He died on Nov. 8, 1879. She was again married to Michael Weger on March 15, 1881, which union was of brief duration, for he also died three years later on Nov. 15, 1883. On Jan. 22, 1885, she was united in marriage to Geo. Weger. Faithful as she was to her husband she was doubly faithful to her children. True to her God and the religion in which she was brought up she considered it her God given duty to likewise provide for her eight children in this matter and had them carefully instructed in her Christian faith. But above all she was faithful and loyal to her God and her church. Many were her trials, great the hardships of life, death knocked at her door without mercy and consideration, but all these afflictions she clung unswervingly to her Lord and God in faith. Amid all the tempestuous clouds of trials and tribulations she never lost sight to the promises of God. She always considered herself a pilgrim in this world and looked forward with an eager longing eye for the better and happier home in heaven. Thus we suffer the loss of a loyal, faithful citizen, wife, mother and church member. For some time she has been ailing and despite all her condition could not be improved. Other complications soon made it clear that her days were numbered and that the last chapter of her life was rapidly coming to a close. At last on Thursday June 22, at 2:40 o'clock, she quietly and peacefully passed from this veil of sorrow into her heavenly reward. She had labored and endured enough during her life of 75 years and 29 days. She leaves to mourn her death besides her husband and eight children, Mrs. Fred Griesse, Rock Rapids; Mrs. John Lindner, Steen, Minn.; Mrs. Henry Griese, Rock Rapids; Mrs. Will Hanfle, Mrs. Martin Baungartner, William Weger and Miss Sophia Weger at home, all of this place. Mrs. Theo Falck of Lamont, also twenty grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three sisters and one brother; Mrs. Fred Kutschat, Seward, Nebr.; Mrs. H. K. Opperman of Strawberry Point; Mrs. Minnie Stier of Sioux City, S.D.; and Jake Griesinger of Elgin, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the German Lutheran church Sunday forenoon conducted by Rev. C. Rembold of Arlington in German and Rev. Fritseyel of Dubuque in English. Interment took place in the beautiful cemetery. May she rest in peace.
