Elkader Register, Thur., 30 Mar. 1922.
The death of Mrs. C. C. Oehring occurred at Waukesha, Wis., where she had been taken for treatment about five weeks ago, on Wednesday morning March 29th, of Bright's disease.
While not entirely unexpected her death still came with a shock that has filled our community with sorrow.
Mary Augusta Ploog was born at North McGregor, (now Marquette) May 12, 1881, the daughter of N. A. and Anna E. Ploog. Left an orphan at a comparatively early age she grew to womanhood and was educated at a convent in Dubuque. She came to Elkader when about eighteen and took charge of the switchboard of the Standard Telephone Co., then newly installed in the Bayless & Oehring Drug store.
On June 25th, 1904, she was married to Charles C. Oehring, at Dubuque, and they have since made Elkader their home. One daughter, Mary Nanette born in 1910, came to bring added joy to their home.
Mrs. Oehring is survived by her devoted husband, her daughter, a sister, Mrs. L. A. Goddard of Mason City, and other relatives, besides a wide circle of friends and neighbors who will sadly miss her.
Death is sad at best, but when it takes a young mother in the early prime of life, one who has everything to live for and whose life is sorely needed by loved ones, it seems doubly sad. Only a firm faith in Him who doeth all things well can heal such wounds.
Mrs. Oehring had not been entirely free from kidney trouble for some years, but it is only the last few months that it commenced to be alarming. Every effort was made to keep the disease under control and the latter part of February she was taken to Waukesha, Wis., for treatment by specialists, but no effort of medical skill could keep back the dark angel.
Mr. Oehring was with her at the time of her death, her daughter and sister were with her just before.
Mrs. Oehring's remains were brought to the home here this morning. The funeral services will be held at St. Joseph's church, Saturday morning at 11:00 o'clock, Rev. Father Taken officiating. Interment will be in the East Side Cemetery.
