Rudolph Charles Strube was born at Guttenberg, Iowa, March 30th, 1856. Died February 8th, 1922, aged 65 years, 10 months, 8 days. He resided with his parents on a farm until he was 21 years of age. At this time he came to Elkport and took up the black smith trade. In March 1882, he came to Garber and started in business for himself. He was married June 15th, 1882, to Matilda Jennings. To this union were born five children, all of whom are living. He leaves to mourn, his wife, three sons and two daughters: Mrs. Morris Bowman, of Elkport, John H. and Edwain C. of Estherville, Iowa, Grace of Barber, Raymond B. of Omaha, Nebraska. Six grandchildren, three brothers and one sister: Henry of Guttenberg, Alvin and Bruno of Yankton, S. Dak., Mrs. Geo. Freidelin of Guttenberg. A host of friends also survive him.
Funeral services were held from the home Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. The quartet consisting of Miss Anna Bals, Mrs. A. W. Hohman, Andrew Reuschel and Robert Hafner, assisted at the piano by Millie Reuschel, sang "The land of the unsetting sun" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." The Rev. Hempstead of Elkader spoke briefly and appreciatively of the high esteem in which the deceased was held by the whole community. Members of the Modern Woodman Lodge of which he was a member for twenty-five years took charge at the cemetery.
The pallbearers were: Fred Voss, Fred Graf, Wm. Boehm, Andrew Reuchel, Fred Krieg and Geo Kriebs.
