Clayton County Register, Thur., 14 Dec. 1933.

GARNAVILLO: This community lost one of its most beloved and most highly respected members when Mrs. Eldo Meyer was laid to rest in the city cemetery Tuesday afternoon.

Beatrice Catherine Marie Meyer was born in Garnavillo township, Clayton county, Iowa, Sept. 22, 1902, and was the eldest child of August G. and Emma (Meyer) Backhaus. She received her religious and secular education in the local church and schools. Her high school work was completed at Waverly, Iowa, since the Garnavillo school carried only ten grades. After spending one year at Grinnell college, she taught her home school, known as the Eagle district school for three years.

She was united in marriage with Eldo L. Meyer, son of Louis Meyer, Dec. 30, 1924. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Meyer. The youngest child was born Friday, Nov. 24th. Although apparently recovering nicely for a few days, other complications became revealed and it was decided best to operate at once. Again she gave the appearance of recovery. However, she was not able to withstand the more severe attack made upon her already weakened condition, and passed away at the Finley Hospital in Dubuque early Saturday morning, Dec. 2nd, at the age of 31 years, two months and five days.

Mrs. Meyer had won the admiration and esteem of all who knew her. Being somewhat reserved by nature, her virtue nevertheless constantly manifested itself in her neighborliness and interest in the welfare of others. She spent her entire life in this community, which in turn joins the bereaved in mourning her untimely death.

She leaves to mourn her parents, one brother, Lorenz; three sisters, the Misses Grace, Burnette and Margaret Backhaus; her husband and four children, Shirley Ann, 6, Lowell, 5, Neil, 2, and an infant son, 11 days old.

Her absence will also be sadly felt by a large number of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon with rev. M. J. Harder, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church, officiating.
