GUTTENBERG: Mrs. W. H. Scholz, nee Julia Greener, one of this community's pioneer residents and worthy mothers, peacefully passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred J. Friedlein, in Guttenberg, Wednesday morning, Nov. 8, 1933, at 1:30 o'clock, following a seven weeks' illness. Mrs. Scholz was born in Guttenberg on May 16, 1855, a daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Greener, and therefore was 78 years, five months and 22 days old at the time of her death. With the exception of two years when she resided at New Albin, her entire ambitious and true Christian life was spent in Guttenberg. On Dec. 12, 1872, she was married at Guttenberg to W. H. Scholz, who preceded her in death on April 25, 1923. On December 12, 1922, the couple enjoyed the pleasure of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. During her entire illness Mrs. Scholz was a patient sufferer and had hopes of recovery until the Angel of Death called her to the Great Beyond. All that loving hands could do and medical knowledge could suggest was done to save her life, but all to no avail. To do acts of kindness for her family and friends was her greatest pleasure in life, many times sacrificing herself to fulfill and accomplish kind deeds. To know her was to love and respect her and her memories will be forever cherished by all. Her death is deeply mourned by two sons, Attorney Charles E. Scholz of Santa Ana, Calif., and Emil J. Scholz of Tacoma, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Wiley E. Friedlein and Mrs. Fred J. Friedlein of Guttenberg, and Mrs. Jesse E. Kidd of Tacoma, Wash.; six grandchildren, Lorenz Reinecke of Des Moines; Attorney Herold Reinecke of Chicago, Ill,; Mrs. Harold Finch and Wiley Friedlein, Jr., of this place, and Herman and Marie Scholz of Tacoma, Wash.; three great-grandchildren, Carol Joyce and Charles Finch of this place, and Herold Reinecke, Jr., of Chicago; one sister, Mrs. Emma Kahle of Guttenberg, and numerous other relatives and friends, by whom this good and true woman will be sadly missed. One daughter, Mrs. Emma Reinecke, who died on April 28, 1922, and a son and daughter who died in infancy, also preceded the mother in death. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. C. A. Jacobi at St. Paul's United Lutheran church here Friday afternoon. The body was laid to rest in the city cemetery. The funeral was very largely attended, which showed that deceased was held in high esteem by all who knew her.
