Clayton County Register, Thur., 16 Nov. 1933.

Willie Mattias Sandkamp was born Nov. 25, 1897, at Lingen, situated on the Ems river, Germany. His parents were Wm. M. and M_ta (missing letter looks like e or o.), nee Kroeger, Sandkamp. He was baptized and received the customary secular and religious education, and was confirmed in due time.

He emigrated to America in August, 1924, and worked on the Crary farm for one year. After spending five years in Chicago in the employment of a local telephone company and the Interstate Steel Co., he returned to Garnavillo. He entered the employ of John Stegelmann on a large acreage several miles south-west of Garnavillo. Two years ago he moved to the Wm. Becker farm in Fayette county, which was the scene of his death.

He was united in marriage with Anna Marie Koehler, Sept. 4, 1920, who proved to be a close companion and able helper. Two sons were born to them.

Mr. and Mrs. Sanderkamp were severely tried when, slightly over two years ago, their youngest son suffered a fatal accident. Opportunity made it possible to farm a property away from the scene of this disaster. Under the influence of kind providence and with the encouragement of a considerate landlord, things began to look brighter for them.

But, while husking corn, the husband and father himself met with a fatal accident. His age was 35 years, 11 months and 16 days.

His widow and son, Willie, two sisters, still living in Germany, and one brother at Valparaiso, Ind., survive him.

Funeral services were conducted at St. Paul's church in Garnavillo by the Rev. M. J. Harder Sunday afternoon and interment made at the Garnavillo cemetery.
