Clayton County Register, Thur., 16 Mar. 1933.
Mrs. Florence Shaw Bayless died at home in Elkader on Tuesday morning, March 7, after several weeks of severe illness, and many months of declining health.
She was the daughter of Henry and Sarah Shaw, and born in Paulding County, Ohio, on July 4, 1885. While very young she moved with her parents to Elkader, and attended the Pony Hollow school where one of her daughters now teaches. She was married in 1904 to Ray Lange. Later in 1922 she married John Bayless.
For many years she has been a faithful employee of the Bayless Hotel, and through her self-sacrificing labor has proved herself to be a devoted mother to her two daughters. She is survived by these daughters, Goldie Mae Lange of Elkader, and Mrs. Marie Lange Kramer of Edgewood. She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. William Stendel and Mrs. Henry Meyer of Elkader and Mrs. Mearl Peterman of Arlington, and four brothers, Oscar and Frank Shaw of Elkader, Vern Shaw of Volga City, and Walter Shaw of Colesburg. Funeral services were held at the Stendel home, the Congregational Church, and the East Side Cemetery Thursday afternoon, the Rev. C. T. Brewster officiating.
